Hunting Rifle Shooting

A very motivated group of shooters have recently taken a foray into Hunting Rifle Shooting, a discipline that is aimed at the development and honing of practical rifle shooting skills of all hunters - currently very popular in South Africa.

Come join in the fun
We highly recommend this discipline, it's the most fun you can have with your pants on, and is also a very social event.

  • Fortnightly shoot on a Saturday afternoon, as per the calender, depending on weather suitable for hunting!!
  • Range will be open for zeroing between the fly shoot and the HRS
  • The range closes at 12:00 for setting up
  • Firing commences at 13:00, after a pre shoot briefing at 12:45

General
We are looking forward to see you on the range for the interesting shoots that will continue as "Hunting Rifle Shooting" has been formally accepted into the PRMSC club at our yearly AGM on 1st November 2009. The calendar from June 2010 onwards allow for a Hunting Rifle Shoot fortnightly. Many thanks to all who worked so hard to make this possible.

Routine
After setting up the range, we kick off with a pre-shoot briefing at 12:45, which will cover the course of fire, typical commands, the routine, safety arrangements etc. and finally squadding into details. The PRMSC Safety Rules are reviewed during this session.

Scoring
Photo targets:  Jan has kindly made available a copy of the photo targets to help shooters memorise the all important scoring areas before the next shoot - view it at the bottom of this page.

  • Lack of confidence in just WHERE the scoring areas were cost me 35 points, the difference between 5th and 3rd on the day.
  • Beware of negative scoring areas; a -15 turns a potential +30 into -45!!
  • This done to simulate bad shots that cause wounded animals
Gongs:    A hit on the 200mm diameter suspended circular disks normally score a maximum of 30 points or zero in the case of a miss.
